Monadnock Defensive Tactics System

Instructor & Basic Certification Courses

Monadnock Defensive Tactics SystemThe Monadnock Defensive Tactics System (MDTS) is a basic self-defense and subject-control program designed for Security, Law Enforcement, Corrections, and Protective Services agencies. The focus of MDTS is to teach officers how to control and stabilize non-compliant subjects who are unarmed. MDTS is a general defensive tactics program. This course combines lecture, discussion, demonstration, hands-on performance of techniques and testing in a concise and practical manner.

MDTS is an integrative approach to dealing with a subject who is non-compliant and unarmed, but offering resistance to being arrested or who is trying to assault you. The foundation of MDTS is the escort position. You will learn several methods to move to a position of advantage and, from there, secure one of two escort positions. The escort position is valuable to personnel because of what they can do from it. For example, a person who is not under arrest but, who is hampering a legitimate lawful procedure can be ushered from the area in an escort position. Should this person offer resistance, the escorting officer could, if appropriate, use the escort position to disengage by pushing the person away. Then, the officer could escalate to alternative and available use of force option(s). Or, the officer could perform one of several MDTS options such as a rear wrist lock or arm bar takedown to control or move the subject to the ground, respectively. The escort position plays a main role in the MDTS Basic Course program.

Monadnock Defensive Tactics SystemIn other aspects of MDTS, you will learn how to handcuff compliant and non-compliant subjects. You will learn how to deflect an attack through instinctive one and two-hand blocking techniques. These defensive maneuvers are designed to neutralize the attack (not the attacker). However, when you can no longer ensure your safety by performing purely protective techniques, you will have to resort to more active defensive means. And you will learn counterattacking skills such as a punch, edged fist, palm-heel strike, knee strike, front kick, and a few others.

MDTS is a principle-based system that functions in three combat positions. Those combat positions are standing, kneeling and on the ground, which is commonly called ground fighting. For example you can quickly perform active defensive skills such as, but not limited to, front punch, palm heel strike, forearm strike or edged fist strike when attacked by a subject while on the ground or in a kneeling position and, of course, when standing. You may effectively perform a block in all three combat positions, as well as an arm bar; for example, to stabilize a subject's arm so handcuffs may be applied. MDTS is a proven, basic defensive tactics system that can be performed in most criminal justice environments where you are on patrol or been dispatched, day or night, inside or outside; whether standing, kneeling or wrestling on the ground.
